Without "Unusual Foresight" anything more than usual performance is unlikely. Action without direction is action without purpose. Action without foresight and imagination means following not leading, because no other direction is available. Action without vision is reaction.* *
Is "unusual foresight" or imagination innate? Not hardly, imagination and foresight require skill and a sympathetic attitude that must be developed and nurtured, sometimes against heavy personal and social resistance.
Is "unusual foresight" and imagination the key to success? No but without them you are a dependent waiting for someone to follow with no achievement to call your own. Not everyone can achieve great breakthroughs but everyone can claim ownership of their own judgment, if they choose.
There are only two ways to be a leader: by [economic or physical] domination or by Vision and action. Vision Engineering suggests that the real leader in an industry is the one with Vision. Without it your best is always behind your competitors. The time that could be spent creating is spent catching up. A vision of survival is no vision.
Vision is not free [why do you think so few have it?], it takes work and requires enormous dedication and discipline. Developing your vision requires constant attention, self confidence, risk, and willingness to continuously challenge some of your deepest beliefs replacing them where possible with conviction. Vision is not a fixed point but a willingness to re-examine. Most of all the pursuit and exercise of Vision is independent of how frequently a path has been traveled.
